J took DB off to a Scout sledding party up at the Boy Scout Camp just up the road. Dropped him and a sled off, and went off to run errands. 20 minutes later, I get a call from the den Leader -- DB ran into a tree, feet first. So, off to the camp, pick up DB. Talk to the doc on site; we're off to the ER. Call SR, have her put together a survival kit of Gameboy and knitting, stop at the house on the way to the ER (it's quite literally less than a quarter a mile out of the way) and pick it up. J still not home. Get to ER. wait. J shows up at ER. go to triage. wait some more. J goes home. wait some more. go to Xray. wait some more. go to room. wait some more. J shows up again, with dinner (I hadn't even had lunch yet, and was beginning to crash). Wait some more. (they were just swamped today -- quite a few walk ins, and a fairly constant stream of ambulances.) Finally, at 1815 or so, see the doc and look at the Xray. Well, then. That's not right. Crack on the inside bone, lots of swelling on the outside of the ankle. Splint it, send him home on crutches, call the ortho Monday morning. Meanwhile, he's dosed on Tylenol and Motrin, laying on the couch with his feet up. No school for him on Monday, and probably not until Wednesday or Thursday. And then a bunch of driving him in/picking him up.

And J isn't going to work on Monday -- I've got a mammogram scheduled, and it took two weeks of phone tag to get it scheduled 3 months out. {ETA: it's a routine exam, no need to worry, but it was a pain to schedule in the first place, and I don't want to have to reschedule. So J is going to stay home with DB, and, depending on the timing, take him in to the ortho.}

So much for my plan of further excavation in the basement this afternoon. sigh.

It is, however, just grand to have a responsible teenager at home. (FSVO -- I'm sure she didn't get any of her chores done, but someone had to let the dog in and out and pass on messages.)

And I did get 4 inches knit on my sweater. :)

Oof, I hope he's feeling better. P ran head first into a cement block wall in school last week and we spent a couple of hours in the ER. Fortunately it's 1/2 a block from my house, so forgetting knitting wasn't a big deal, but the last stay I spent in the hospital with one of the kids was supposed to be 30 minutes and ended up being 8 hours and I'd only brought 1 hours worth of knitting. I nearly went crazy until kid went to sleep and I could run home and get more!

And yes, thank the gods for teenagers at home who actually notice that the dog is crossing his legs and jumping up and down. :)

Ahem. You're supposed to us an Impact font if you're going to make a LOLBONZ.

I'm trying to work out implications of urgent mammogram, and coming up with unpleasant scenarios. Did I miss a post explaining this?

If there was a post, I missed it too. I suspect by the 3 months out timing, however, that it's routine.

I read the words as "three months earlier than otherwise possible," an implication of non-routine urgency which I find disconcerting.

Not urgent, it just takes a long time to get one scheduled, so it'd be best to not miss one without a good reason. Since staying home from work is no trouble for me at all (I can pretty easily work from home or shift my schedule to 2 hours here, 3 hours there, etc) there's no need to go through that and push the test off another 3 months.

Ah, thanks, good to know. I didn't realize that the scheduling was so difficult.
