It was a con.
Jan. 21st, 2008 03:50 pmFun was had. Beer was drunk. "Beer" was tasted. A concert was performed (FINLANDIA!) (and in an interesting bit of serendipity, I'm currently listening to "The Stars and Stripes Forever", which was our closing piece). Knitting was done (mind, I've since ripped it back and started over, as the ribbing at the bottom was too tight and was folding up; and I don't think that I'd be able to solve that with blocking, as it's a cotton blend yarn).
I rode over to the concert venue with
jebra, and helped him with setup and teardown. Unfortunately for me, I was still in GT con mode when we got there (you know, the one that earned PFRC/GT the 'if you have a problem, go to the middle of the consuite and holler FERK!. Someone will help you' bit of advice given for years to new subheads at MiniCon). I got 'assigned' to be the band contact for the person actually directing the program, which meant that I was making executive decisions for a band that I've played with for one whole year. heh. It was a very nice venue (Milford's high school auditorium), and there were 250-300 people in the audience, and the concert went fairly well. Well, other than the fact that both of the reeds I took out on stage died in the first half. I was a bit concerned that it was a leaky key, but putting a brand new reed on during intermission solved the problems I was having (I may just have to go back to the old ligature, as this new one seems to be hard on reeds).
My mother called this afternoon, and passed on the information that at least one of the boxes of her mother's china that is going to me is missing. Her sisters are cleaning out the storage unit (as it's now apparent that Judy will not be moving into her own place, and there's no room in the apartment she has now), and the plan was to box up the stuff that will be/is mine and send it off. There is a box of four complete place settings, and a box of miscellaneous service pieces and the extra bread&butter plates. The other box(es) of complete place settings are missing (we don't remember whether Judy took eight or twelve place settings when she moved to Florida).
