Of holiday earworms.

I have two pernicious holiday earworms, both filks. Why can't I have "normal" holiday earworms? I'd be fine with Gaudete, or "Gabriel's Message", or something obscure, but nooooo....

One of them exacerbates my tendency to slip into Yooper, and the other is just plain strange.

Ttto Jingle Bells

"Oh, rust and smoke, the heater's broke, the door just blew away

Ttto White Christmas

Christmas cards have begun arriving. I guess I should find the cards I bought in January. And start writing the letter. :)

Oh, I remember that Yooper song! From Dr. Demento, I believe? Same album as "it's the second week of deer camp, it's the greatest time of year; we drink play cards and shoot the bull but never shoot no deer."

yes, same group. Called Da Yoopers, based in Negaunee/Ishpeming. You may have heard them through Dr Demento, but they were in regular play on the Houghton radio stations in the mid/late 1980s -- I had friends who would go to their bar gigs and bring back cassettes. Then a couple of local stores started carrying them, so it was possible to buy a tape without going to a gig. :)

(The other one is a Tech Pep Band filk; the year that somebody decided that we should add White Christmas to our December playlist. We only *played* it during December, but we sang it all winter. )
