Well, that went better than I expected.
Apr. 15th, 2006 06:14 pmThe dramatic thing at church went over reasonably well. It was a bunch of readings about the events leading up to the crucifixion, with a focus on how the disciples betrayed or abandoned Jesus. As expected, there were a few oopses, mostly related to timing. (Oddly enough, they all involved the person who didn't bring her text to practice, and who asked the most questions about "how". Apparently, while she took notes on an extra copy of the text, she didn't pay attention to the answers, or read her notes before Thursday.) The organist says I'm her 'new best friend' because I remembered to bring an old hymnal with the closing choral amen in it. :-) (The new Methodist hymnals don't have it, and she wanted one for one of the hymns we were doing.) It went over well -- the congregation seemed to like it, at any rate. All 15 of them.
And I discovered that I do not own a black shirt suitable for the occasion. (I only have one, and it's fairly snug, with a deepish neckline and openwork sleeves. It's great for cons or parties, but not so good for a solemn occasion.) I probably should remedy that lack, because there are times when black is the right answer. Sigh. Another blow for conformity.
