Sigh. It's spring.
Apr. 11th, 2006 07:47 pmAnd I can't do any of the things that really should be done in the garden. It's annoying. There's weeds to pull, and plants to move, and last years' stems to trim, and, and, and….I'm stuck inside with my stitching and my knitting. I weeded today, for about 10 minutes. That's it for the day. And I expect that I'll be stiff and creaky tomorrow, because I'm already sore. sigh.
The dog was excessively annoying today while I was bringing in the groceries and the mail. She decided that she had to go through the door every other time I did. Oy.
On the plus side, there are flowers and birdies everywhere. The cats were pleased that it was warm enough to open the windows and the back door today. Some peering and some ack-acking at the birds on the deck, although mostly they just sprawled in the sun and inhaled the outdoors. Some of the early tulips are blooming, and the stand of daffodils on the south face of the ridge popped into bloom this morning. J got the rill running, and there are sparrows bathing in the running water, and bright red breasted robins and bluebirds bathing in the standing birdbath. I should fill the ground bath, although the crows seem to be using it as a place to crack sunflower seeds. The goldfinches are very bright—almost fluorescent; and the house finches are bright purply-red. The bluebirds have claimed their houses. The one on the deck is unclaimed so far, but there've been quite a few birds poking into it this spring. There was a crow trying out his different songs this afternoon… I don't usually hear that many different songs from a crow. There are some monster wooly caterpillars this spring… J found one that was three-quarters of an inch across and a couple of inches long.
