Well, ick.
Jul. 29th, 2005 11:18 amGadzooks! What a lot of paperwork. Had pre-op today - cardio pulmonary check up, blood draw, urine sample. Go through the release forms (*6* of them), and the nurse explaining that they can't tell me exactly what the surgery will entail because the doc won't know until he gets in there.
(Basically, decompression and fusion of L5-S1, decompression and (possible) stabilisation of L4-L5, but that depends. If it looks like L4-L5 will straighten out and stay stable with the fusion at L5-S1, he won't put screws in.)
Nurse said that I didn't need an EKG -- apparently, they're now required for males over 41/females over 51 before surgery requiring general anesthesia.
4-5 days at the hospital. Ick. It's a nice one, though, as hospitals go, and iirc all the patient rooms have views of things other than parking lot. Pretty much out of commission for 4-6 weeks after that. (In practical terms, worse than it's been so far, but going toward *better*, which I guess is a Good Thing.) Sigh.
Oh well, J can do most of his work from home, and once the kids start school, he can go in to the office while they're gone. And SR is off to swim camp for a week, so that will make life easier, as well.
