As I expected....
Jun. 10th, 2005 11:40 amSurgeon pretty much agreed with the ortho. Microdiskectomy is not really an option. Any surgery will have to be fusion between the two vertebrae. He asked about injections, and was pleased that I'd already scheduled the second version, as he was going to suggest that anyway.
Followup with him after the injection, at which point he may want to schedule a discogram (to determine exactly which disk is causing the problem, although it seems apparent) or we may just go to fusion. (Of course, if the injection reduces/relieves the pain, we just shove everything back until the injections don't work. The injection won't actually solve the problem.)
He's leaning toward fusion, simply because the Xray showed some scoliosis due to the asymmetric collapse of the disc. The hope is that fixing the ruptured disc joint will allow the rest of my spine to straighten, reducing the pressure on the upper discs.
