Color me impressed

Wow. I just got back from the Middle School concert (SillyRabbit is in the 8th grade Concert Band). I was impressed. They did a set that would have been hard for many high school bands, and they did it very well. Well-tuned (and stayed that way), counterpoint, fugueing, uniform attack (differentiated between slide, slur, and hard), everything you could ask from a MS band.
This is the group that got all 1s at MSBOA in March, so I shouldn't be surprised that they were able to put together another good concert set in a couple of months (plus work on the Memorial Day stuff). Their band director is kinda bumming to see them go off to high school, but he will still get to work with them as he's the assistant director there.
Nothing really to report on the back stuff. It's.... different. Sometimes better, usually not, occasionally worse. My stamina is way down, which is really annoying. I went grocery shopping today, and had to come home and put my feet up after only a couple of stops. I'm a week behind in beating back the books at DaBoy's school library (they were doing inventory last week, and asked me not to come in), so tomorrow I'll be trying to file 300+ books while helping flocks of K-2 kids find a book to take out.
