Sep. 22nd, 2008 10:01 amThe house still smells of skunk. The stupid dog got herself whacked in the chest by an annoyed skunk. Of course it was after dark, so she got brought in to be washed. That was Saturday evening, and it still stinks. grrrr. And it's been too cold at night to leave the house open; and far too damp yesterday for leaving the windows open to do any good. It's still cooler outside than I like, but I've got to get the smell out somehow. SR already sprayed the upstairs bathroom with NeutraAir -- as she says, it may be bad but it's better than skunk. And it does work. Eventually. I've been using it in J's bathroom so that the bedroom doesn't smell like a locker room. I may do the living room and hall today. Just before I go outside.
Which I am loath to do at the moment, as I'd scare more than a few critters. The finches are having a number of conversations at the bird feeder and bird bath -- there are over a dozen out there, bouncing around. There are eight or nine sparrows bathing in the rill -- it's hard to tell for sure, as they keep moving around. A dove just swooped into the rill and spooked a frog into the pond and most of the sparrows off. There was a downy woodpecker listening to the birch tree this morning. The cardinals have their latest fledgling at the birdbath -- s/he is very scraggly, still half in nest feathers. There are six or seven tadpoles in the pond. None of the toad-poles made it to leg stage, as far as we could tell, but the froggies are doing fine. There is a big frog in the pond who looks almost fake. He's not, because we've seen him move. Patience is sitting on the deck, just watching. And the birds don't care -- she's easy to see, and too far away to be able to catch any of them.
