Name our "choir"..... and other ramblings
Sep. 8th, 2008 02:59 pmAs those of you who follow this lj may know, I sing in the 'choir' at church. Over the last few years, we've gotten away from choir robes and formal anthems, as well as having people move away, so the group isn't large enough or formal enough to warrant being called a choir anymore. So the pastor has asked us to come up with an actual name for the vocal ensemble. Anybody got any ideas?
At last rehearsal, there were four women plus the accompanist (who does sing if she can sing and play at the same time). There are two other women who have expressed an interest in singing with us, but they weren't at rehearsal one had a prior commitment, the other had a sick toddler). It *is* a church group, and the minister is one of the singers, so nothing truly irreverent, but she does have a sense of humor.
In other news, I picked up my new glasses today. They're weird. I know I just need to get used to them, but I somehow managed to keep the last 'script for 20 months, and this one is different -- and the frames are a different shape, so the 'frame' is in a different place....
The rill into the pond was full of sparrows and finches this morning -- I counted eight, and then a finch popped out from under one of the streams where s/he'd been showering. The frogs have discovered the shallow bank portion of the pond, and there are four hanging out on the woodchips, and another four on the algae by the grass in the pond.

Seven Singing Sisters?
I can probably come up with something better, but I need to know a bit more about the group. What flavor of church is it? Any particular symbols, characteristics or points of shared culture that would inspire the naming process?

Date: 2008-09-09 11:33 am (UTC)It's a United Methodist Church, and it's one of those small country ones. Farmers and first generation non-farmers, mostly, but there's been a steady influx of 'new blood'. Nobody in the 'choir' actually grew up in this church.
I'm trying to stay away from numbers, because the actual number of singers can vary between two and everybody....
I was free-associating on my way home from band rehearsal yesterday, and "voices strangely warmed" popped up. Somewhat denomination specific, but hey, it's a church group.
