WTF???

Someone is stealing rocks from our front yard.

How annoying. The rocks are kinda big, and would run $75+ at the landscaper, but really.... We piled them up around the well point so we wouldn't have to look at a PVC pipe in the middle of the front yard. Now I have to figure out some other way to hide the dratted thing.

How many rocks do you want? The only problem is that they're at the back (i.e. bottom) of the backyard, and are pretty heavy.

It's weird that someone would steal ornamental rocks around here. (Of course, I thought it was weird that my neighbor *bought* a bunch of ornamental rocks. He should have gone digging in his own yard first.)

I'm fairly sure that the rock-nabber is from the new development. No proof, but given the facts that the rocks have been piled in the front yard for nearly 10 years, and that the development has been open for just over a year (so this is the first spring that there have been people living there)....

That area was heavily wooded, and much of it still is; and any large rocks are either well underground or were removed by the developer. Friends who live in the woods tell me that there aren't nearly as many rocks back there as there are in the fields.

It's funny, after the first one was stolen, I kinda, half-jokingly (sp?) to myself, thought, OK, I could hammer-drill into the bottom of the rocks, and attach cables to them with tap-con screws. Then I said, come on, you're going to tie down the rocks?

Now that the second one is gone, my urge is to go and find/buy a really NICE rock, then booby trap it so a can of marker paint sprays all over hell when it's lifted. It'll mess up the rocks a bit, but if it hits the perp, I'd still be happy.

In reality I'm afraid we may wind up tying the rocks down. That's just silly, but I guess you live with reality.

Alternatively, we could just pile up a bunch of small, uglier rocks.

Or convince the neighbors to buy nicer rocks than ours.

Somebody at work suggests substituting pink flamingoes for the missing rocks. It'd be a conversation starter. Or stopper, one or the other.

We'll have to look for tacky garden things at Lowe's the next time we get there. I think that pink *anything* would attract attention to the wellpoint, which is what I don't want. Although this might be a good time to figure out the Fantasia 2000 flamingoes....

Roxanne, thanks for the offer, but I don't want to give our rock-nabbers anything else. Yet. Maybe if we could figure out a way to get a BIG rock half-buried, so they'll hurt themselves trying to swipe it.... (the problem with that is that we may need to move the rock at some point...well-points do occasionally require service.)
