So there's a FCB outreach performance this evening. I may actually need to find my black blazer. (The summer uniform is white polo, black pants, red/white/black jacket (if necessary).) Last year, all of the summer performances were hot and humid (85+ degrees and sticky), so that the concern was overheating. This year, not so much. At the first performance, it started raining just after the last of the equipment was loaded into the truck, although it was just about perfect, temperature-wise; it sprinkled just before the second one began, and it was cool enough that I was wearing a tanktop under my polo. This one, I may wear the tank and the blazer (it's warmer than the red cardigan). Esme will not be pleased.

We've had to scrap the plans for the Chelsea Summer Pride (the 4th of July performance on the lake)-- most of the kids who are willing to play have other obligations. We almost had enough people scraped together, and then Z called and said he had a summer job at his dad's house, and wouldn't be in town all summer. SR was counting on Z to play so that she could direct. oh well.

I picked strawberries today, not that there were a lot to pick. It's been rainy and cool, and these berries just don't ripen in those conditions. The ones that do taste terrific, though. I did a little bit of weeding, but with the cool weather and the concert tonight, I didn't want to over work my back. There is just so much weeding to be done.....

The big rose bush was a bit of a disappointment this year -- there were a lot of buds, but it rained so hard just after the first flush that there was a carpet of hot-pink petals for 5 feet around it. If I go out and deadhead it (which will take a couple of hours, the thing is so big), we will get roses all summer, though. It's probably worth it. There's a chipmunk living in it (more likely, it's living in the birdhouse that's still on the deckrail). The LollyPop lilies in the front flowerbed are impressive, and they look really nice next to the Cranesbill geranium that's flowing around them. There's a backdrop of Blackberry Lily foliage behind them -- they're actually members of the iris family, and the foliage is in that distinctive fan shape. The lilies will bloom later in the summer.
