OK, one week down....
Mar. 16th, 2008 08:21 pmEaster week to go.
Closing things from the last post: stage rehearsal went well. We had two extra tuba players show up for the final rehearsal and the concert. They're both -very- good, and one was improvising a pedal tone part down an octave from the written tuba part (as there were three tubas playing that part). It was a bit disconcerting when the riser started vibrating....then the chord resolved, and Esme was resonating with it. Much better. ('Twas just as well that they both showed up --
jebra had a technical failure, and had to go get another tuba halfway through the concert.) The concert seemed to go well -- I suspect we'll find out tomorrow.
The cherry pie I made was well received. I must say that rolled refrigerated pie crusts are a wonderful thing. It took me all of 15 minutes to make the pie, and that was mostly because the crusts are supposed to sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes before you try to roll them. I did generally useful things at the Egg Supper on Friday -- while I had been assigned a task, there were four people assigned to it, and it never really required more than three. So I floated, and did what needed to be done.
SR's quartet got a 2. They were fairly pleased with that, as it was the first time at State S&E for -any- of them, and the other sax quartet from CHS only got a 3 (and their lead is one of those "bask in the glory of my greatness" kids). The adjudicator said that there were a couple of places where their chords were out of tune, and that the bari sax was right. He then said "the bari sax is always right, even if he's not". Out in the hall, I agreed with him. ;> SR was not amused (although Z (the bari sax player) was).
Still no work on the flute duet for Sunday. Erm. the current plan is to work on it on Tuesday after bells and on Thursday after the Maundy Thursday service. (Never mind the innate weirdness of working on an Alleluia immediately following a Tenebrae service.
DB's Science Fair was rescheduled, but the family didn't make it up for the concert anyway -- the crew didn't get done re-setting the school after S&E until after 7, so there just wasn't time to make it up to Farmington. And, of course, the Science Fair was moved to a night where I already have a prior commitment. Four weeks ago I could have used a good excuse to get out of singing at the MT service, but it's too late now.
DB starts PT tomorrow after school. They've set up two appointments, and we'll schedule more after those -- the first one is mostly for evaluation, and they'll know more about what he needs after that. Hmm. wonder if I have to stay with him, or if I can go stretch or something while I'm waiting. Must enquire.

By the way, I was a bit ambiguous on my technical problem -- it wasn't part way through the concert in my first tuba through a shoe -- it was warming up just prior to the tuning note. I left the stage and a run to get a second tuba, which is why there was such a long pause between the tuning note and the introduction of the band.
