A weekend in Chicago (and environs)
Feb. 18th, 2008 12:50 pmand yes, it did actually include some time in Chicago proper. SR didn't have school on Friday, so we went over on Thursday after school. On Friday, we went down to the Shedd. It was definitely worth the trip. It's been quite a few years since we were there, and it's a far different experience for a 16yo than it is for a 10yo. We actually sat on the floor under the Wild Reef and just watched the fish swim by for quite a while. We also got to see the moray in the lobby tank swim around -- that was cool.
Cap was a con. I was holding the 'late key' for the GT suite, which meant that I was "in charge" when the other parties on the floor began closing down. :) I did have a few (non-GT) people asking me if I had a problem with that (including a couple of Barfleet people) . I said "no. I'm a mom, I used to be a Scout mom. And I used to subhead the Minicon consuite when Minicon was big." A few drunks wandering around looking for more booze are not a problem. (and it certainly beats the years when I used to close down the room, and then open it again four hours later when DB decided that he'd had quite enough sleep, thankyouverymuch.)
Had a good time catching up with people I don't see very often. And meeting new people. And being actually introduced to people I've been talking to for years (which often happens at cons). SR and I didn't see anything in the Huckster's room that wanted to come home with us (largely because we still have boxes of stuff from my parent's house that are still in boxes -- I really don't know if we've got any more space).
DB says to tell you all he's doing just fine, and it doesn't hurt any more. :)
