So, got into the ortho this morning (one of the four I've seen). He cut the splint off, poked about on the outside of the ankle. Ow! Ow!. Ok, says the doc, the crack is just a crack. Doesn't seem to be anything to be concerned about. The OW on the lateral part, that's a little more concerning. The ligament is stretched, and may be torn, but there's no way to find out right now, short of cutting the ankle open (there's still too much swelling for an MRI to show much). So, cast him up (fire engine red!), come back in two weeks for another check, when the swelling has gone down. We stopped off at the PT clinic for a quick crutches tutorial, and DB goes back to school on Thursday, and will sleep in his own bed (up the stairs!) tonight. Of course, mom gets to take him to school and back again; plus drop his trombone at the bandroom. Every day. For at least the next month. (the doc says that he really doesn't expect him to be able to ditch the cast in two weeks -- maybe the crutches, but even that's not likely.)

Rehearsal last night was not fun. I was in the wrong headspace for sight reading Wind Symphony music, and my back was being stiff and creaky, despite the NSAIDS I'd been taking since Sunday afternoon. And I've decided that the new ligature does not go with the reeds I already have, so I either go back to the old lig (which is what I did last night) or buy harder reeds. I'm a little leery of playing a harder reed, but the mouthpiece I have now is a lot more open than the others I've played, so it might work out. I'll have to get a couple of harder reeds when I'm out today.
