Hrm. Heavy, wet snow. Lots of it. It's only been snowing for 90 minutes or so, and there's already 4 " of snow on the ground. It's heavy, wet stuff -- air temp is just around freezing -- and they're predicting wind later tonight and tomorrow. Wonder when the power will go out?

I had to clear out the track for the garage door -- the snow was sticking inside the vertical track, and the door was stopping 2/3 of the way down (and then reversing). This was after I went out and cleared the snow off of the electric eye that tells the opener that there's something in the doorway.

Happy New Year, y'all!

ETA: I just saw some lighting. My first thought was that it was something shorting out, and then I heard thunder. I'm glad I was already planning on staying home tomorrow.

My first experience with thunder snow was in Davenport, IA while driving from Cedar Rapids, IA to Ypsilanti, MI. It was also blowing and drifting. Much better to be stationary and home.
