My brain was pudding last night - something about consecutive nights of rehearsals that were almost entirely sight reading. On two different instruments, playing entirely different parts. Add in the 'getting used to earplugs'.... And the section leader wasn't at rehearsal last night, so sight reading was more difficult because there was an entire part missing. The tech at the shop in Okemos was able to fix the most egregious problems on the tenor, but he said that the sax needs a full repad and tuneup, but I won't have time for that until after the Christmas concert. (I think the pads are mostly original, and the horn was built in the 1970s. I did have it tuned up a couple of times in the 2000's, and a few pads replaced, but not all of them.)
Peep next to me was complaining that he didn't get any of the emails last week - the ones cancelling rehearsal, or letting us know that there was new music available. I'm like 'dude, don't complain to me. They came from the band prez through the band email account. Talk to her, or check your spam traps.'
There was a hard freeze last night, and now the leaves are falling off the trees in earnest. The tupelo in the front yard lost probably 80% of its leaves in two hours. With no breeze, they're all in a circle of red and gold underneath it. I deployed the heated birdbath on Sunday because I'm not a fan of chipping ice out of the other birdbath. It seems to be only 'sort of' working, because there was a layer of ice floating in it this morning. Usually, the birdbath keeps the water above freezing, unless it's *really* cold. J says he'll look at it this afternoon when it warms up a bit. I didn't have to chip the ice out, so there's that - just reached in and tipped it up enough that I could grab it and pull it out.
I really need to get into the E garden before winter truly gets here, but we got so much rain last month that I don't dare step into it. They tell us that it should get warmer and stay dry, so maybe I can get into it this weekend.
