Well, that's done. The "Summer Pride" (the name we were given by the party host) played today at a lake party. It went OK -- actually, given the fact that this was the first time we'd all played together, I'd say it went fairly well. (There were a number of rehearsals, but there was always someone missing -- SR and I missed the first two.) We did rather butcher the third movement of the Clocktower Suite, but I think that part of that is that we were using the full band arrangement, and it's hard to pull off a balanced band sound with 14 people (and no clarinets). Apparently, there was some doubt as to whether the party would even happen -- the weather warnings at the lake were such that the "State party" scheduled for noon-ish was cancelled. I wound up playing both tenor and bari sax today, depending on the piece (and what music I actually had).
We went out to Mum's for lunch today, and she'd invited my sister's best friend over as well. DC was pretty much part of the family when we were growing up, and she's got two boys right around DB's age. The boys ran around together, and her 5yo girl decided to talk to me and SR most of the day. We took a few things from the shed and garage, and I snagged a mixed case of red wines. Mum has really no idea what to do with it all -- she doesn't particularly care for strong reds, and there's a lot of it in the wine cellar. DC's husband took a few bottles, but he's got more wine in his cellar than Dad did....
This weekend is going to involve a lot of driving for me -- Saturday is SEMGS (I'll bring some of the wine, at least); Sunday SR gets delivered to camp in Sebewaing; Monday is the last FCB concert for me this season. I may play with the AA Civic Band on Wednesday, but that's a 'game-time' decision. (I need to call DT and find out exactly *where* they're playing -- they played today at Top of the Park, iirc.)
