The Livingston band concert last week was not rained out, or even on. The director started the concert early because the clouds looked a bit threatening, but although there were two or three rain-bearing clouds that went directly over us, none of them actually dropped any rain.

The record keeping for this summer is complicated by the fact that the bands are rehearsing outside as well.... I'm not sure how to score rehearsals. FCB does not have rehearsal this evening; Livingston has a concert scheduled for Tuesday, but the weather peeps are saying it may rain.

Pro Tip - when playing saxophone outdoors on consecutive days in the summer, have an extra neck strap. Tuesday I put on the neckstrap I used on Monday, and it was sticky and damp and a bit icky feeling. But I have an extra....

The gardens have dried out enough that I've been able to get out and pull weeds. I've been filling the garden cart at least once a day. We discovered a few really big ant hills in the garden. The neighbors are spraying for ants (have a 'biological' theoretically safe for bees and pollinators service coming in), and I suspect that ants are all coming over to our place. I don't mind a few ants, but when the anthill is a over a foot in diameter and 8" tall.... We got some ant killer and have spread it.

I finally got J to move the pavers and retaining wall blocks out of the space behind the rill so I could get in there and pull the weeds and grass that have grown over the last year. I think I'll plant some black-eyed susan there, or something of that ilk. But not until next year, when I see if any of the spring bulbs that were there survived last year's rill reconstruction.
