Spring progress...

there are flowers on the strawberry plants. a couple have been fertilized already. I've been putting off weeding that bed because it's been so cold - the weeds have been shielding the strawberry flowers - and it's been so dry. But I think the danger of freezing is pretty much over, and the weeds were getting awfully thick out there. And it wasn't so cold that I had to bundle up to work out there.
I wandered around the yard yesterday, mostly clearing off the daffodil seed pods - if those get cleared, the plant puts that energy back into the bulbs, and in a couple of years the clump gets bigger. The tulips in the front garden got nipped by the cold snap a few weeks ago, and won't flower this year. I cut back the dead leaves, and I hope the rest will feed the bulb so they'll flower next year. I really need to weed in the E garden, but the ground is too dry. Even breaking it up with a cultivator doesn't help - the weeds still break off at ground level.
The flowers on the rowan tree by the pond opened yesterday. The crabapple tree in the front yard is full of bees - I can hear it humming from 15 feet away. There are buds on the irises.
The FCB gathering on Monday went as well as could be expected. There were a few people who didn't read the email, and didn't send in their RSVP, so we had some extra bodies to work into the set up. It's going to take about an hour to get the setup chalked every week, especially since the numbers will change every week. foo. I will be putting J's fiberglass construction tape measure into my gear this summer - it'll be a lot easier to measure spacing with a 100ft tape than with a 16ft tape. (I got offered the equipment manager job. Erm. NO. I'll be Second, I'll do set-up and teardown, but I won't be in charge of the mess. That would mean even more time at concerts, and arranging gear transport for away gigs, and dealing with access issues, etc. Not happening.)
