jennlkMy dad's rule of thumb for last freeze/last frost, honed over the course of a few decades of working the same fields (and writing things down), was last freeze around Mother's Day, last frost around Memorial Day. That was in Zone 5. Our house is inland Zone 5, so really Zone 5b (aka, warmer than Zone 5).
There was a quarter of an inch of ice in the birdbath this morning, and they are telling us that it might get to 55F today, and they've posted a Frost Advisory for tonight. It will be nice to get back to normal temperatures - the weather peeps tell us that we're still running 10-15 degrees below normal, and well behind on rainfall for the season. They were predicting a nice all-day rain for Sunday, but then the path shifted a bit and we got a day of gloom but no rain.
The FCB rehearsal scheduled for tonight has been modified. We're still gathering, but only for music distribution and a dry-run of the check-in/set-up procedures - nobody wants to play outside in this weather. (lots of us did it when we were in college, but we're older/wiser now.) The bell covers that the Board of Directors ordered haven't showed up either, which is the ostensible reason for modifying the schedule.
