it's a low-grade panic, it is....

Due to TimeFail on my part, I wound up at the big Meijer on Friday. (To be fair, I ordered the items to be 'shipped to store' last week. They told me that one of them would not arrive until Thursday.) The grocery store was full -- the lines were long, but moving reasonably fast. I didn't go down the dairy aisle (we're stocked on skyr and cheese), but the TP aisle was cleared out (I did get a single 6pack from the not-in-plain-view pallet because I needed to). Also cleared out? Sugar (except frou-frou raw and the substitutes), canned beans, canned tomatoes, frozen chicken in all its forms, name brand frozen veg (although the house brand is better and cheaper), single serving frozen meals, and the sausage/hot dog case. The lunchmeat section was pretty well stocked (other than the cheap stuff), and the bread aisle was no worse than it usually is on a delivery day afternoon before the delivery. There were lots of vegetables, although all I bought was a bag of potatoes. I haven't been to the local grocery store since Monday, so I don't know what its status is.
The thought of going to Costco (it's just down the street) crossed my mind, but I Nope!d out of that pretty fast - I don't need anything from there right now. We'll be out of a couple of things by the end of next week, but even if we run out it's not a calamity, more of an inconvenience. By then, I truly hope that the panic has settled. I still plan on buying a 12 pack of disinfecting wipes, and dropping it at the food bank on my way through town.
The mall parking lot was down about a third from its usual parking level -- probably half of that was employees. REI was fairly empty, but their parking was pretty full - it's right next to a Whole Foods, so that wasn't surprising. The clerk at REI said that it had been pretty aggressive at Meijer Thursday night.
We still have not heard that there is no FCB rehearsal next week, but I would be amazed if there is - the schools are closed at least for the next three weeks. LCCB was cancelled early in the week (before the universal school closing).
It was nice and warm for a few days, with afternoon sun (much appreciated by the cats), but it's been below freezing since about 8pm last night, so there's a solid skin of ice on the pond (getting thicker), and it's overcast and gloomy. boo.
