There were parent/teacher conferences yesterday. Both of SR's new teachers knew that I was her mom before I introduced myself. Her band teacher introduced me to his student teacher as "the lady who bought a bari sax 'just because'" (technically, that's incorrect -- I bought the tenor sax 'just because', and got the bari for a real reason, but anyway). We spent most of that conference discussing what he wants to do with a community band. The student teacher is from South Haven, and went to high school with our oldest niece. Her French teacher and I spent most of the conference discussing the Symphony Orchestra which had just competed at the National level (they came in 2nd) -- she said they were outstanding. I *still* haven't heard those pieces, as the CHS concerts have been on Monday nights this year, and I've had my own rehearsals to attend.

The Cincinnati Conservatory of Music Chamber Players presented a concert at the high school this evening. I didn't even know about it until SR said (at 7:20) "hey, there's a concert at the HS I want to go to. It started at 7 pm." So we scampered off to the concert. It was well performed. Instrumental chamber music, especially that of the 20th century, is not my favorite type of music, but it was a good concert. Some of the CHS chamber groups performed as well, but we missed those. :(

There's a FCB concert on Saturday. It's a very ambitious program. I hope it goes better than the last concert. One of the keys on my bari got bent sometime between last Thursday (when it worked just fine) and Monday (when it didn't). I've bent it back, but I'm not too fond of doing that just before a concert. I also stopped at the music store and got a harness for the darn thing -- I've been having neck trouble, and I suspect that hanging the bari off my neck for 5 hours a week isn't helping anything.

I've baked the pies I said I make for the Egg Supper at church tomorrow night (omelets and fixin's, including homemade pies). One cherry, one blackberry. Crumb topping, because it turns out that I did not have two packs of pie crusts in the freezer (at least not that I could find). (yes, I can make pie crust, but I don't usually bother, as the frozen crusts are pretty good, and a lot easier. I was already pushing my limits of doing 'stuff' today, and making pie crust would have put me into 'nsaid before bed' territory for no real reason.)
