Wow. Remind me why I thought this would be a good idea? Three weeks until the concert (March 31, 7:30 pm), and there's still a lot of work to be done. Last night's rehearsal was hard. (And slightly silly in places, like when the trombone players behind me started singing "Mr Roboto". Sotto voce, so the director didn't hear them.) And I had the hardest time wrapping my brain around the tempo he wanted for a piece. And then when I did get it, the guy next to me didn't. Still too many notes that I'm not getting (mostly skipping them entirely, which is, I suppose, better than playing the wrong notes).

And then on the way home I put in the CD of the cantata we're doing at Easter. Ummm. I really, really, really hope that SK comes and sings with us -- I can hit those notes, cleanly, but there's a lot of them up there, and by the end of the piece I'm through warmed up and almost into pushing too hard. The notes are easier to hit when I'm standing up, though, so I'll just have to hope that it's enough.

I found the lid for the thistle feeder -- it had joined the gathering of watering cans and water dishes next to the deck, and was under the snow when we were looking for it. We have lots of hungry birdies--they polished off the 5 quarts of birdseed in the big feeder in a day! The red-winged blackbirds are back, and I think there's more sparrows than there have been. Most of the winter crew is still here, and the downy is still hanging around. He must live in the woods behind the house.

There's a woodpecker that's hammering away on something over by the golf course most afternoons. Probably not the same one, but the woods around here are old enough that I'm sure there's plenty of bug-filled snags to keep a lot of woodpeckers happy.
A whole lot of birds seem to have come in from the south in the last few days; until stuff starts growing in for them to eat I expect we'll go through a lot of seed.
