Yay spring!

At least for a bit. It was nearly 70F and not raining over the weekend, so I spent it clearing out gardens.
I cut back the russian sage and the stonecrop in the north-west garden, and raked the leaves and branches out of it as well. I also pulled about 40 feet of grapevine out of it, in multiple pieces. I'm sure I didn't get it all, so there'll be grapevines in it again this summer. The daffodils in that bed were about 2" high on Saturday morning when I started working there. Now they're more like 6" high, and flower buds are beginning to show. That was Saturday.
Sunday I cut back the milkweed and hibiscus stems in the east garden, and raked leaves out of the garden. I also raked up the cottonwood and willow branches in that section of the yard. Since Sunday morning, the small irises in that bed have gone from just a few to a couple of 10" solid patches on one side and a wide scattering in the other side.
J plopped a large rock into the outside edge of garden -- he's taking out the line of rocks along the main road, as it appears that that yahoos who were cutting the corner have moved on, and a couple of those rocks were kind of pretty, rather than just fieldstone boulders. Another boulder went into the space next to the pond, where it looks like it's been there all along....
After the five cart loads on Saturday and the four on Sunday, my back started to get cranky, so that was the end of yardwork for the weekend.
