I'm glad that my uniform skirt is machine washable. Let's just say that floor length skirts and multiple bands on a stage do not mix well. I sat in two different seats for last night's concert, and both times there was brass spit on the floor, and a skirt that is (not quite) floor length when standing will pool on the floor when seated. Add the fact that the van is still coated with salt from Saturday's drive into AA, and you can see why my black skirt is in desperate need of a trip through the washing machine.
I could have played better -- for some reason I was just not in concert mindset and I'm still not sure why. I was also having trouble with my reeds. SR thinks that I may need to go up to an even harder reed, as the C* is so much more open than the mouthpiece I was playing before. The trumpet player sitting next to me for the mass band was very careful not to tuck his feet under his chair, at least not without looking first -- we were so packed together on stage that the bottom part of the bari was under his chair, and he kicked it a couple of times during rehearsal last week. There's a limit to how upright I can hold the bari while I play, and I always seem to be banging it into the leg of the chair next to me.
jebra says he's working on giving the entire section more space. I suspect it may involve a wholesale rearrangement of the band, though.
