Stuff is flowering all over the yard. The fruit trees in the easement, the red tulips next to the deck, the tiny tete-a-tete daffs in the E garden, the strawberries, the grape hyacinths (and the one red tulip that wandered in) in the doorside garden, etc, are all blooming. A couple of the early blooming lilacs were starting to pop flowerbuds yesterday, but it's cold and rainy today, so I think they'll be a few more days before they actually open. There are flowerbuds on the two crabapple trees, but I don't expect them to actually flower for a week or so, more if it stays chilly.
I cut back the early daffodils last week as they were looking bedraggled with the day's worth of rain we got.
The goldfinches are bright yellow, the indigo buntings are back. Yesterday I looked out and there was a bunting and a finch in the bright green riverbirch. V pretty!
I have been weeding things, and yesterday managed to trip over the varmint fence as I was getting out of the large strawberry bed. I caught my toe as I was stepping over, and fell into the smaller bed next to it, managing to get my hands up so I didn't faceplant into the dirt. Still, managed to bruise my thigh and twist my knee a little bit, as well as jarred my shoulders and back a bit. I guess it's a good thing that it's raining today, as I won't feel guilty for not weeding.
I was hoping to get to the rill sometime this week, now that the rocks aren't cold and I'd mostly caught up on the weeding, but that will have to wait until next week.
Rehearsal on Monday was hard, lots of detail work. One of the snarkier members of the band said it was because DC was being filmed (and so he was showing off a bit), but I think it was because we've gotten familiar enough with the music that he could work on the *music*, not just the notes. This is a good thing, because the concert is May 20. But hey, what do I know? I'm just a musician, not a conductor.
