Things I've discovered after 72 hours:
-going up stairs is much easier than down stairs
-I'd really been walking weird -- the aircast is making me walk (more or less) normally, and it's really bugging my heel. I'm adjusting to that now, so it's better. Shouldn't be a problem in a couple more days.
-I need to wear a shoe on the other foot, or my left leg gets unhappy because of the 2" difference (and I hate wearing shoes in the house)
-I can really feel the difference when I walk without the boot
-jeans are annoying to wear with the boot -- even boot cuts don't fit over it
-putting the boot on in the van sucks, but I can't drive with it on, and I'm not supposed to walk without it on (I will not be driving the car until I don't need the boot anymore)

Date: 2005-02-20 09:11 am (UTC)The big problem here is the difference in the heel height. I don't usually wear sneakers with 2" heels. :)

Date: 2005-02-20 11:07 am (UTC)Actually my Mom had foot/ankle problems for a while. I think she ended up using crutches for almost 3 years. Not a happy thing especially when you live in Colorado and are very active. Eventually they ended up opening her ankle up and scooping out a lot of goo. Since then she has climbed 14,000 ft mountains, built a house, cycled, hiked most of the Colorado trail, and run a marathon.
It was tough, but she came through okay.

That, and it's still winter.....
