We went. It was good to be back in the UP and we took it leisurely so we saw good scenery and no one got too stressed.
Regarding front-end collapses, that happened on a previous trip to the UP. We were in the act of pulling into the Dairy Queen in Munising at about 4 pm when the tie rod broke. Fortunately, we were two blocks from the repair shop, and they had the part in stock. We were 'forced' to stay overnight at the Days Inn. They had it fixed by noon the next day. If you're going to have a tie-rod break while on vacation, I strongly recommend doing it there. Not only will it be repaired quickly, but you can get the kids a Blizzard while waiting for the tow truck. :-)
