the venue still is acoustically horrible. The stage acoustics suck, and for all the millions of dollars they sank into the building, the arts wing is pretty much as it was (new floors, fixed bathrooms, & painted walls nothwithstanding). The old bandroom is now nominally a "black box", but it's really just a corralling space for the youth theater program - there's no infrastructure for a proper theater area, and not even any provisions for temporary lights/curtain/sound. And it would be a horrible space to rehearse in, as they took out all of the acoustic dampeners that made it usable as a bandroom. (I'd really need my earplugs there.)

The HS band director where we rehearse is not real fond of sharing space with us, and BM had to do a lot of asking around to find someone who would be able to let us into the building to return the gear that we borrowed. (I can't really blame zie for not wanting to come in on a Sunday, but the school system claims to support the band, but can't find one person willing to do that!?!)(The band director at the other HS would be happy to host us, be there's not accessible space to store the percussion cabinets there, so we're stuck.)

I suspect that we will not be doing Against the Rain again anytime soon. Rumor has it that the stompy "jazz" Tsax player will be back after break. foo. He's a lovely person, but will not change his style of play to match the band, so there goes the sax choir.... sigh. And the piece we're doing at Hill with the guest conductor is Here We Rest. (J pointed out that we do a lot of requiems. He's not wrong. There will be at least two on the program at Hill, three if we do A Movement for Rosa (which is not for Rosa Parks, but a piece commissioned in honor of someone's mother).)
