FCB rehearsal Monday night was even *more* freeform than last week! BM got a call Monday noonish "we're going to be using that space tonight. you can use the parking lot at the other end of the building". BM texts me, and I'm like "erm, yeah. I dunno how that's gonna work, as that lot is long, narrow, and has a driveway through it". And of course, it's raining off and on all afternoon. We throw the final decision on rehearse/not up to the prez, who says "go for it". It's raining as we mark the setup, and there are cars going *through* the setup. *that's* not gonna work. Wait, what about the bicycle parking/sidewalk at the front of the building? It's big enough? It is, even before we move the bike racks (which are supposedly bolted down, but the bolts have long since rusted through). So we're marking spots as people are showing up. Then there's a rain shower 15 minutes into rehearsal, so we break for a few minutes, resuming when the rain stops. It gets too dark to read music about 8pm, and after looking at the weather, rehearsal is ended. The lights come on as we're packing up, but peeps' weather apps are still saying "rain in 15 minutes". Prez, BM, and I were there for 30 minutes after rehearsal with no rain, so.... Next week, they tell us that we're outside again, but in our "usual" spot which is under a light. Current plan is to rehearse until it's too dark to see, have announcements and break until the lights come on, then play on. Ideally, we'll be inside the week after that, as the band's protocols have been approved by the school safety board.

Next week's rehearsal is weather dependent, of course, as it's now quite definitely fall. It's 20 degrees cooler than it was yesterday, and raining. They say it's going to rain until Friday, for a total somewhere around 5" of rain for the week. Supposed to be done raining by next week, and warmer, but cool at night.

Still flailing at the tenor parts in some Livingston music. The biggest problem with in The Mood is getting my fingers to the right place for the low Bb. There are some other pieces that I just need to sit down with the horn and work through them - I'm not used to playing frilly bits. :) There are other frilly sections where I'm pretty solid, usually ones that are more like I played in college (the last time I played tenor sax regularly).
