Lotsa not much going on here.
Mar. 13th, 2019 06:18 pmIt's not warm enough (or thawed!) for garden work; the next FCB concert isn't until late May; there's stuff slowly rolling in for the next Music Boosters newsletter; my thumb is pretty much settled out at what will be "the new normal"; the cats have spring fever.
Yesterday we raked up the branches and leaves under the weeping willow tree. That was four or five wheelbarrows full. The ground underneath was still frozen at the time. I expect it's probably thawed by now, but it's in the shade of the garage so it takes longer to thaw, The rest of the yard is thawed a bit further down, so at least it doesn't feel like mud on top of rock. There are crocuses blooming in the side garden, and the lilac buds are swelling, so spring is coming!
We had our first FCB rehearsal for the next concert on Monday. All new music, although some of it we've seen before. I have decided that I'm going to play the bass lick in Danzon up an octave, as playing it as written caused a tear in the back of my right hand -- it's physically easier to play up an octave, and much less stress on my hands. One piece I don't remember playing, but it's got my writing on it. (or there's another BSax player who writes their numbers like I do.)
The HS band director has asked me to lay out a music department newsletter for their big upcoming concert. I have no problem doing that. The person who was managing editor last year isn't doing it this year, and a couple of other officers resigned, so I've been trying to find someone to call the printer and tell them that it's OK to print the newsletter. "But we've never needed official authorisation." "You had someone on the Boosters Board call them up and say 'print 1000 copies of this newsletter for pickup on Friday'. I can't do that."
I spent a while today trying to find gluten-free oatmeal and/or oat flour. I had heard that Trader Joe's carried it, so I went over there. No luck. All they have is steel-cut oats. Meijer has Bob's Red Mill GF Oatmeal, in a 2 pound bag. I need much less than that. Lucky Market has BRM Oat Flour, and if that was all I needed, I'd get that. I may still. Compounding this entire escapade is that the Meijer I was at is in the throes of a remodel, and they had no unbleached flour, theirs or anyone reasonable. The only unbleached flour on the shelf was King Arthur sooper-spendy. I'll pass, thanks. There's another Meijer I go to regularly, I'll look there.
