again with the shoveling....
Jan. 28th, 2014 07:47 pmso, around lunchtime I opened the fridge (as one does) and noticed that we were nearly out of milk. (and ham for DB's lunch sandwich.) sigh. This meant that I needed to shovel the (now 10" deep and somewhat packed) snowdrift at the end of the driveway -- while I could probably get out by hitting the drift at speed and sliding into the street, getting back in wouldn't be as easy. And there was a chance that I'd miss the slide and wind up in the snowbank on the other side of the street. Both are sub-optimal results. So I went out and shoveled the snowdrift. While I was out there, I dug out the mailbox. whee. It's not perfect -- J curves the driveway edge of the snowbank to slow down the development of the drift, and clears down to pavement, and I didn't really do either of those -- but it's done and my car can get out and back in again.
And I'm only slightly creaky after two days of shoveling, and I still remember how to dress for shoveling in the cold (it was a balmy 7F with wind chill somewhere below zero).
The birdbath has a ring of snow on it.
