Not as bad as it could have been....
Dec. 24th, 2008 08:52 pmThe warm and rain stuck around long enough that it's not quite a sheet of ice. Doesn't mean there isn't any ice -- there's three or four spots of black ice between here and church (which is maybe a kilometer), but it's not frozen slush. The mail guy was saying that the sloppy back roads were rather like quicksand -- and that was before it started raining. Now it's stopped raining, but it's 28F and dropping, with a nasty damp west wind. Between the wind and the performing, my back is quite cranky.
Christmas Eve performances? Well, 'that wasn't horrible'. I was singing alto all by myself, against three sopranos. I still don't have my entire singing range, and certainly can't hold notes as long as I usually can. There were more than a few places where I was making up the alto part as I went (the 'rule' is that as long as you're in the chord, you're OK). I got most of the important (read, moving/resolving) lines, though. The flutes could have been better in tune, but they shift so much as they warm up that it was probably as good as we could have gotten. I probably should take her in to the shop when I pick up the saxophones -- it's been quite a few years since she's seen a tech.
The gifts are all wrapped and under the tree. Stocking stuffers are in a box, waiting for the kids to go to bed, then I can fill the stockings.
DB's hat is mostly done (I've been doing a lot of not-knitting, so it's pretty much where it was 36 hours ago). But there's a bowl game on, there's nothing else to do, so I'll see how much of it I can get done.
I hope that where ever you are, whatever you are celebrating, that you are warm and at least content, if not happy.
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
