Nov. 3rd, 2006 12:50 amSo, the Halloween concert went well, as far as I could tell. The tuba player had fun with the "If I Only Had a Brain" solo. Unfortunately, most people I talked to thought he was tired or something, not fumbling through a solo as if he was missing part of his brain. I screwed up a couple of times, but nothing major; or more importantly, nothing that the audience noticed. And SR was in the audience, and she knows what a tenor sax sounds like, and she'd be sure to tell me if she noticed something I messed up. And then the next day I hauled my 'backache on a handle' into rehearsal, and switched to bari sax. Ghod, that horn is lovely! And heavy. sigh.
Tomorrow is a busy band-ish day. The CHS band is hosting the Ball State University Marching Band for the night, and SR wants to watch their rehearsal tomorrow after school. So she'll leave the house at 7am to catch the bus and get home sometime after 10pm, in between doing a full day of school and a full gameday of band activities. The CHS football team is still in the MHSAA playoffs, and that means that there is a football game in Chelsea tomorrow night. It will have the added feature of a MAC band playing some of the pregame, some of the halftime, and a 'battle of the bands' after the game. Dunno how much of a Battle it'll be, since the BSU band is about 240 members and the CHS band is only 130. I expect they'll do OK, though. I was fairly impressed at Festival; and the BSU band will be playing at the Big House on Saturday afternoon. And yes, we will have band members staying with us. I said that we had space available if it was necessary, and it apparently was. SR tells me that the Emmas both have 7 guests, and a family who has no-one in high school anymore is hosting 6; so I suppose I can't complain about getting 3. (Other than the fact that the house is still a wreck, DB's clean clothes are strewn all over his floor, SR's room is a minor disaster area, and the futon is half buried under knitting, books, and a stuffed snake, not to mention the cats who are (all three) curled up in cat sized balls upon it.)
