Mixed weekend....
Feb. 13th, 2006 07:11 amCapricon was fun. I saw people I haven't seen since last year, met new people (yay!), stayed up late, talked to smart people whom I don't see all the time (yay-yay-yay!), puppy-piled, etc. Was good. (Even went to programming! (
mgucciard, that's your fault!)) Missed Brother Guy's presentation because I didn't get to the hotel until it was mostly over, although I peeked in. Only very slightly stiff and a little bit sore today, which I'm happy about. I was able to nest in the GT room when I needed to, which was more interesting than nesting in my room.
Thursday night, my sister came out to see us; so it's just as well that I'd already decided to head to the con on Friday. She lives in Alaska, and we only see her once or twice a year. I wasn't going to miss her visit.
Friday morning I shooed the kids out the door to catch the bus to school, sat down to read my email before I left, and saw "Judy is in the hospital". Not anything I wanted to see. Judy is my 82yo aunt. She was found collapsed in the parking lot of her condo in Florida, with bleeding in the brain. They're trying to get everything stabilised before the head neurologist looks at her today, but the current thinking is that the collapse led to the bleeding, not the other way around. She recognises people, and has control of her extremities, so it could be far worse. Judy & Mom's middle sister lives in Florida in the winter, and she is keeping us updated. I left J with instructions to call me if anything "important" happened. Like I could do anything from across the country, but still.... (It's probably worse for my sis, as she's travelling all month on various business and pleasure jaunts, and isn't as easy to get a hold of.)
As J said, 'a bad week for the Florida bunch'. But when half the family lives in Florida (the less robust half, at that), these things happen.
