Still with the recovery.
Oct. 19th, 2005 08:27 pmYou'd think I'd had major surgery or something.... :)
Anyway. I'm back on track, but not pushing quite so hard. I'm alternating "busy" days with days where I just "sit" and stitch or do Crostics. It seems to be working, in that I'm able to do more every week. There's still a long way to go, though. Yesterday I made my longest drive yet -- all the way to Jackson and back! (about 80 miles, by the time I made all the stops.) I was very tired and sore last night, between the driving and the walking. And there was definately some inflammation in the nerve channel, as I was limping a little bit last night. :(
A somewhat unexpected development is the return of epidermal sensation along the outside of my right ankle. It was very strange....I haven't had sensation at the skin level/just below for over 10 years, and all of a sudden I could feel the sheets on top of my ankle! The docs told me that there was a chance it'd come back, but it was more likely that it wouldn't. It comes and goes, I suspect because there is still some inflammation in the nerve channel, but I think I may actually get it back permanently. Bonus! (I got the muscle control back almost immediately, as that was only gone for a couple of months just before surgery.)
12-week followup next week. Probably still no rehab -- there's about four inches of spine held together with screws and rods, and he doesn't want it shifting. (Neither do I, frankly.) I'm still quite stiff, and there's a spot just above the fused joints that's a lot more sore than the rest of my back. It really hurts when I sneeze.
