Whoops. Anyway, I took J out on a "real" shopping expedition on Wednesday. Slightly amended, since I still really can't walk very far, but we stopped at KMart for DB stuff; Staples for SR stuff; Meijer for groceries and miscellaneous; and a last stop at Polly's in town for the stuff I buy there. Took over four hours -- and it usually takes at least that long, even when I'm moving at full speed. I was really tuckered out when we got home, and even J was tired. Heh. Maybe now he begins to understand why I only do those trips once a week, and without the kids.... According to the pedometer my folks gave me for my birthday, I walked nearly 2 miles (plus sitting in the van). That was just a little bit too much upright time for my back, so I spent the rest of the day laying down on the icepack.

Friday I got to drive. Wheee! SR had swim practice in the morning, so J dropped her off and I went to pick her up. Then she had to be back at school for band practice before the football game (their first performance on that field, and C (the band director) wanted them to run through the halftime drill before the game so they knew where they were supposed to be). J thought they needed to be there at 6, but they needed to be there at 5. I'm still not quite ready to drive that much in one day, even though the van seat is quite supportive and as comfortable as I can expect.

And now I seem to be coming down with the cold that the kids have been passing around for the last week or so. sigh. It hurts to sneeze.

The finches are being really noisy in the tree just outside the door. This afternoon, there were six or seven bluebirds bathing in the birdbath, and a couple of goldfinches waiting their turn (and a pair of cats just inside the door, twitching...).
