Wednesday afternoon I got a call from the service coordinator at the insurance company. She was exceptionally professional and apologetic, but the shop at the top of the preferred list would take the car, but not be able to even *look* at it for 8-10 weeks.
"Erk! What about the shop next on the list", as I just want it to go to a preferred shop?
"They're another 15 miles E, but they can get to the car on May 3."
"Much better. I don't mind driving that."
"There is one difficulty, and that is they won't have room on their lot for the car until then. Now that you've approved them as a destination, I will see if we can leave the car where it is now, and transport it on May 3".
About an hour later, after a bit of phone tag with the service manager at the dealer where the car is now, she called back. "All sorted. The dealer can store the car until 3 May, one of our transporters will pick it up and move it to the shop then. You should get a call from the shop a couple of business days after that with timeframe estimates."

In shin news, it's still black and blue around the edges, and the primary impact spot is still red. I'm keeping an eye on it, but unless it gets worse, I'm going to leave it alone. I ice it twice a day, and try to keep it elevated at least a little bit.
