The yayhoos from the "election integrity fund and force" (an election denying group, who seem to think that hand counting is preferable to fast and accurate election results) have successfully petitioned for a recount of random precincts in MI. On two proposals that passed by over 10% each, so the recount will not change the results of the vote at all. But they have money to throw at the recount (they have to pay a deposit, and some of the costs for the recount), and filled out the paperwork correctly, so the Board of Canvassers had no grounds to deny the petition. The Board is calling the recount "nonsense", and they're not wrong. There are circumstances in which a recount is not nonsense (there was a county commissioner race in the next county that was *tied* at the end of election day, so that race went to a hand count right away), and there are policies which allow for automatic recounts, but this isn't one of them.

So I get to go in to A2 for two and a half days next week and count ballots. whee. (must remember hand lotion and water bottle, because handling that much paper is drying. Esme gets to go on Monday, because I will not have time to come all the way home before I head to rehearsal. Hope they don't mind her in the corner, because I'm not leaving her in the car!)

I once had to hand-count ballots and with no instructions on process. I'd love to know the process you'll be using.
