hee. West facing gardens -- which get afternoon sun -- are always the first gardens to flower, and I specifically put crocuses and snowdrops and other very early bulbs in that garden so that I'll get flowers as soon as the ground thaws. Sometimes even through snowbanks, but this year the snow has melted out of the garden at least (there's still snowpiles where we piled the shoveled snow).

(this particular garden is nestled between the black asphalt driveway and the concrete foundation, and it thaws weeks before any of the other gardens. I will say that the East garden, which gets full sun in the spring, also has early bulbs sprouting in it.)
