Kids and their toys....

I finally broke down and got a new serger (a Huskylock 910) to replace the Huskylock 340 I bought before J and I got married. Right now, J and SR are watching the instructional video tape that comes with the new serger (he's ripping it to a DVD, since the only working VCR in the house is the one on the video computer, and I won't have access to one in the sewing room when it's done). I keep hearing "neat!" "cool!" "that's how that works!" from the room. heh. I will be happy when I can get the new serger set up and actually get to play with it.... It still smells of construction lubricant and styrofoam packing, so I'm letting it air out on the kitchen table. It's a lot heavier than my old one. bigger, too. (It also does more, and supposedly is more durable. I may not be replacing this one.)
In other news, I discovered that a hard shell eyeglass case is the perfect size for a bari sax mouthpiece. That makes transporting my extra mouthpiece easier -- there's really not room for it in the case, and I was a little worried that it might get chipped if I carried it in a pouch inside my gear bag.
Casey's being taunted into 'being a cat' -- SR dangled a stick in her face until she whacked at it.
The pleco in the multi fish tank died just before we left for Berzerker -- I actually noticed he was dead when I went to drop in the weekly feeder on Monday, just before we left. I was a little concerned that the whole tank might be dying, but the silver dollars are still going strong. (which is fairly impressive, when you realise that this is the tank we set up when DB was born, and two of the dollars and the pleco were some of the original fish we put in there....) So, we need to get a new pleco for the tank. I hope a little one will be big enough to take care of the algae in the tank -- not that there seems to be all that much, but the old pleco was over 6inches long when it died.
I've been 'popping' tomato worms -- I hate trying to get worm innards out of the tread on my shoes, so I've taken to popping them under a hoe. It makes a truly disgusting noise, it does. But then they're dead, and not eating my tomato plants anymore.
