And the year begins

jennlkwith four hours of sight-reading concert band music. Two hours of relatively easy stuff last night, to be sure, which rather made up for the two hours of hard stuff the night before. Some of the FCB pieces we've seen before, but it's been a while, and there was a guest conductor who wanted things probably different from DC. Last night's LCCB rehearsal had only one piece I've played on bari, and one other that I'm fairly sure I played on tenor, although I couldn't tell you whether it was college or high school. (and a K King march, for which the bari part is easy.) I'm fairly sure that we'll be getting more music in FCB, but probably not in LCCB -- the LCCB concert is a week before the FCB concert, but the FCB concert is an "On The Education Stage" with Farmington HS, so we have fewer pieces than we usually do.
I got home from rehearsal last night just before we got hit by a snow squall that dumped over an inch of snow in 30 minutes, complete with high winds, lightning and thunder. It kept snowing, at a slower rate, for much of the night, and we had over 2" of snow this morning.
Back is much better, so there's that. Still need to be careful with the twisting -- one reason I didn't shovel snow. (the other is that it's supposed to get well above freezing tomorrow, with sun; and then rain on Friday. The snow will be gone soon enough.) Cold right now, though. Thermometer tells me it's 6F (-14C) on the back deck.
EU says that she has been fairly unaffected by the Australian fires - she's in the NW 'burbs of Melbourne, and while they've had bad air quality days, the fires are well away from them. They're still watching the fires, though. Her flatmate's sister did get evacuated, but afaik were able to return to their home.
