I can still wrangle paperwork. And pixels. I was hired mostly as a filing clerk, so guess what I've been doing? Filing papers and ballots, and typing in mailing lists*. And figuring out Word (I haven't used Word since the writing lab in college -- we use WordPerfect and Open/Libre Office at home). The Deputy Clerk said to me today "wow, I didn't get a desk for six years. you got one in two weeks. She (the township clerk) must really like you." DC is also pleased that some of the boxes that have been living in the corner of the office have been cleared out and the contents filed appropriately (circular or drawers).

Had a doctor's appointment this afternoon -- scheduled it four weeks ago, before I was offered the job. I figured it was probably time for my annual checkup that I haven't gotten in four years.... New young doc (my PCP is booked through November, partly due to a 3 week vacation), seems pretty competent. Not ded yet, probably not gonna die anytime soon, so that's good.

I am way behind in the garden - the nice weather's been falling on days that I'm working. If it doesn't rain this weekend, I really need to get out there and finish weeding the E garden. There was a quarter inch thick layer of ice on the birdbath last weekend, but it doesn't look like things are going to freeze again for another week or so, so I'm going to hold off on deploying the heated birdbath.

*the new Word doesn't do labels the way older versions do. You can't tell it "I want a document formatted for this type of label" and have it give you a document with that template enabled. The only way to have Word do a sheet of mailing labels is to already have a Mail Merge file populated. Which would probably have taken longer than it did for me to type in all the addresses and format them to fit the labels.
