Winter is coming.
Sep. 30th, 2022 01:08 pmI know this, because there was a layer of ice on the birdbath this morning. Not a very thick layer, to be sure, but still thick enough that I could pull it out in one piece....
I had three timers going in the kitchen earlier today - brewing iced tea, chilling Jello before I put the fruit in, and filling the pond. Some of the tea is going into a ring mold so that the "ice" in the dispenser won't dilute the tea. I'm making the tea at home because I didn't really want to hang around the church kitchen and wait -- I've got things I can do here, and there's space in my fridge/freezer for the pitchers and the ice ring. I have a stack of things to go over to church tomorrow when I go.
We set the tables with actual metal silverware, rather than have people get their own at the end of a buffet line (or worse, use plastic!). One of the ladies was "we need to match the silverware" erm. yeah. The church has collected the silverware over the course of 50 years (at least), and there might be four place settings in each of 25 patterns, if someone were to actually go through and match everything. Which seems like an awful lot of work for not much reward. We sort out the actual junk silverware once a year, and keep the usable stuff. I say if you've got mis-matched silver, embrace it. (also, if people want matched silverware, the kitchen of a small country church is probably not the right place to look.)
There is another stack of things in a different room with things that I have to take to the FCB concert on Sunday. (plus the two folding music stands already in the car.)
I have a parcel packed up to go to Mum in NC, but I think I'll hold on to it until next week -- while she is (currently) in the direct line for Ian, she's well inland and *up*, so she'll get wet, and may not be able to leave the complex for a few days. I have not heard anything about AC's place in Cocoa, but they would have "just" gotten rain. AC is currently in the mountains of NC, and battening down the hatches for a rain event.
