it's raining again.
Jun. 2nd, 2021 06:20 pmThis is, probably, a good thing, because ghu knows we need rain, but it's getting in my way....
Following up from the last post, we got about an inch and a half of rain by the time it was done; I finished weeding the strawberry beds; and I thinned one of the shrubberies. Many of the branches had sap running in them, so I didn't lop everything off. Thinned it by about a third, which is probably what we should have been doing annually *anyway*, but J is crap with garden maintenance. In an ideal world, at least some of the branches I left will leaf out, and the thing won't die. The other shrubbery has about 15% leaf cover, so I have to be a little more careful when thinning that one, and remove branches that don't have leaves on them. (J was too busy with K to do any garden work.)
I've also started weeding the E flowerbed, and that's a lot of work, as I barely got started on it this spring before it got too dry to weed. I had planned on getting out there today, but I ran errands this morning and got home just as it started raining. foo. I should be able to get out there tomorrow and Friday, and maybe early morning (before it gets hot!) on the weekend.
The peonies are starting to bloom, and the yellow & bronze irises too. The deep purple iris buds are just beginning to open. The well-established lupine is blooming, and the other ones are just growing - if last year is any indication, they'll bloom later in the year. The pink daisies are just beginning to open - the rain has slowed them, as they much prefer sunny days.
Next Monday's FCB rehearsal is a stage rehearsal for our first concert. The way things are going, though, there's gonna be a rule change between rehearsal and concert, and the spacing policies may change. We shall see. (I bought a bucket of sidewalk chalk to keep in my car, just in case - GM was concerned about that at the last rehearsal 'what happens if I'm late?' 'somebody goes to the market and buys chalk?')
