First actual rehearsal in (counts on fingers) 14 months. He ran a bunch of things that the band has played before, so the big thing is just getting us back into the swing of playing and listening to each other. 50-55 people, once everyone showed up. Chops are fine, air is fine, right shoulder was creaky after rehearsal, and back and shoulders are stiff this morning - something about hanging 15+ pounds off a neckstrap....

The big problem was during setup. The board sends out a RSVP/health check every Sunday, to be returned by 5pm Monday, at which point GM does the seating chart. Yesterday there were *seven* people who showed up without an RSVP. Screws the layout up big time. I had to apologise to the horns for their layout, because the extra trumpets messed up that side of the band so badly. Three other people didn't bring all their music, despite the email saying 'bring chair, stand, music, instrument'; and previous emails saying 'there will be no bin, you are responsible for your music'.

I explained my standing on the Equipment Manager's job to a few more board members - they're recruiting new board members, and I may suggest to the new crew that the Equipment Manager position be split into two complementary positions - one for gear acquisition and transport (talking to the school about what gear we can use, renting the truck, finding a driver, etc), and one for set-up/tear-down. And maybe find a few people to reliably do set-up, because once we get back into the bandroom, it's gonna be more than three people can do. (Parking lot layout is three people running tape measures and chalk, no moving of chairs/stands.)
