Well, then.
Mar. 21st, 2018 01:07 pmSo Friday, after the movers left, Mum called in a state. (Mum does not 'state' easily, but it had been a Week.)
Seems that we'd packed stuff into some furniture that it wouldn't travel in, so the movers (nicely, but still) unpacked it and left it on the floor of her otherwise empty living room. And then she walked into the closet and realised that nobody (including us earlier in the week) had looked up and realised that there was three or four boxen worth of stuff on the overhead shelves. "I need more boxes! And can you drive down with your car full of stuff? because there's just toooo much here for my car."
So I volunteered J to come over with me on Saturday to get the chairs (no point in packing them into my car and then hauling them back to MI, and it would not have been easy to figure out where to leave them in Dearborn until I got back). We dug out more boxes from various recycling piles, and went over Saturday morning to finish packing. One of Mum's younger neighbors (he's 65) helped us pack and load boxes. We emptied the apartment and put the last bags into my car sometime after 1pm. Mum and I left for NC after lunch. Got as far as Columbus Saturday night, and drove the rest of the way to High Point on Sunday. She couldn't get keys to her new apartment until she'd filled out lots of paperwork, so we didn't start unloading the cars until nearly 11am. Finished that about 2pm, at which point I decided I'd just wait until Tuesday to leave. (They're putting her up in a guest suite on the same floor as her apartment until her furniture arrives later in the week, so that's good.)
It's a very nice place, and she's got a nice view of a wild ravine with a creek at the bottom, not that she'll see the creek once everything leafs out.
