Another sign of spring?
Feb. 26th, 2018 10:09 amJi wanted to go out this morning, so I opened the door for him, and a pair of sandhill cranes behind the pond hollered and flew off. Ji didn't go out. :) DB said that he'd heard cranes calling a couple of days ago, but I hadn't seen or heard them until today.
The birds are a bit confused at the moment. J cut down the rosebush by the deck because it's just too big, and the birds are looking for their perching places. They'll figure it out pretty soon. The plan is to move the bush (and split it up to make a rose 'hedge' somewhere in the backyard) and plant a smaller open shrub by the deck for the birds -- probably a wegeila of some sort, as they won't get too big. I'm trying to stay with native or at least non-invasive plantings, so no honeysuckle. Serviceberry is too big, and barberrys are too small.
