That didn't go as planned...
Nov. 23rd, 2017 11:03 amI had plans to make pumpkin crisp for dessert today, and didn't bother to check the pantry, because I knew that I had pumpkin (because I'd seen it while looking for something else), and I "always have a can of evaporated milk in the pantry". You see where this is going, don't you? No, I do not have a can in the pantry. I am *not* going to the grocer on Thanksgiving Day, even though the local one is open. I guess I'll make something else for dessert. I have apples for apple cake, or I could make a chocolate cake. Or a bundt cake with cranberries. I'll ask DB.
Then again, we may be putting off T'giving dinner until tomorrow - there's currently not space in the fridge for any more leftovers, even after I take out the dinner bits, which are tucked into a drawer where the leftovers won't fit. (If I put leftovers in a drawer, they'd go fuzzy).
In things going somewhat as planned, earlier this week I got into the garden and cut back the daisies and the peonies, so they won't fall over and turn into a hard to remove mat of broken stems. It was 50F and sunny at the time, but by noon it had clouded over and the temperature was dropping - I wore my winter jacket to bell rehearsal that night. I did not get the milkweed cut back, but it's supposed to be decent tomorrow so I can do it then.
The FCB is getting down to final prep for the holiday concert. Should be interesting - there's some interesting stuff on the program, and a thing that I am completely unthrilled by. We have a vocalist coming in to do a piece, and while I like the idea, the selection is horrid - I'm not a big fan of overwrought amateur sopranos, and that's what this piece has. And it includes Amazing Grace, which is so overplayed, and composers keep messing with it to "make it new and fresh". Why not do something else if you're looking for 'new and fresh'?, is what I want to know. I'm also not thrilled by the HS bari player. I keep pointing out to her that this is a Wind Symphony with a full bass section, not an under-bassed HS marching band, so she doesn't need to blast. If nothing else, if she's as good as DC says she is, I shouldn't have to. Two rehearsals to go, with varying levels of attendance (as we're getting into holiday concert season, there will be band members missing for performances with other ensembles).
